After taking the kitties to get their annual check up on Tuesday I had a few dear friends over. The house feels so empty with out Mark and it was nice to have laughter filling up the kitchen. Of course, Lori though that moustaches (for those us us without) would be hilarious. She was right.
Wednesday afternoon I arrived in Gainesville for a banjo lesson. I met Chuck Levy (finally, in person) when I attended his Suwannee Banjo Camp in March. Chuck is a kind man and has an incredible love for and knowledge of the banjo. I decided to start making the 2 1/2 hours treck up to Gainesvile for old time lessons. This was my third lesson with Chuck. He is an amazing teacher and has taught me so much in such a short time. And, Autumn joins us for lessons. You can't beat this deal!
I left Gainesville early Thursday morning and found my way to Banjo.com in Marietta, GA. I got some D-tuners for my banjo and had a great time chatting about banjos. I accidentally played a Stelling Swallow Tail banjo. It was really nice...
Finally, I made it to Maryville. My reliable Maps app failed me and took my down a road that was NOT a main highway. Hmmm. This was in interesting drive. When I pulled into Phil and Patti's drive way I was far too happy for words.
We all caught up with each other and then had an amazing dinner. This is a picture beets picked fresh from the garden.
And, I saw my first ever horsefly. Yuck. I immediately started singing, "Shoo, fly! Don't bother me." This thing was big!
Patti and I are picking our banjos and getting ready for work. She and Phil have the most amazing farm. I will be sure to take some pictures on this visit.
This blog title references a line from a song off of the new Claire Lynch album. "If the road is my sentence I'm doin' time." I could relate! I listened to the "Dear Sister" CD about five times on my drive today. It is beautiful - some of her best work. Treat yourself to a copy.
