Day 38: Reaping Rocks.

It has been a pretty good day thus far. It was a pretty light morning because we only had to move nets to cover three rows of apple trees. It took about two hours, and we had to move a lot of stones to keep the nets down; but it was not too hard. The nets keep the birds out of the trees because the birds always find the best fruits!

The we had an art lesson. It was a lot of fun. We are still working with watercolors and perspective. Most of the family chose to use watercolors, but only Tamar really loves them. Rotem was working so hard on the perspective drawing that she didn't even make it to the painting part. But that is okay because her drawing is fantastic.

Lulu could not be dissuaded from sitting in the sun and drawing. She really wanted to draw her cabin, so she just toughed it out. This family is rugged, for sure! She just used a few colors, which surprised me because she usually is an alchemist in finding many colors. Avi made a great drawing, but he struggles with the watercolors. For him it is an exercise and not a passion, like it is with Tamar.

Shakar started drawing the feed barn, but he became excited about the backhoe and made a really nice drawing of it. Everything was going great until he tried to paint the sky. It looked not-so-good. But he had a great few hours of drawing and painting and is positive about the experience. He will try doing wet-on-wet next time.

Here are some of the fruits of their labors. Like I said, Tamar is passionate about the watercolors, and she loves to work with them, even though this is only her third lesson. Avi's paintings are the bright and bold ones. He likes to make the colors opaque. He is definitely a gauche kind of guy.
Then we went to the pool. Then we had ice cream. Then we went back to work.

And work we did. Now I am bouncing back and forth between making the new greenhouse and clearing the field on the east side of the big greenhouse. Yeah, I'm farming rocks, or reaping them. That would be a great band name: Reaping Rocks. Or maybe not.

  2. It is goat ice cream. That is the only milk they use here on the farm. They just got an ice cream maker, and they are using the heck out of it. They put some of their fruits in there, too. The ice cream we just had had peaches in it too! It was so good.
