And she's the doofiest. When the kids are playing in their pen I like to watch them. Sometimes I can guess their game, but, like kittens, sometimes they are in a world of their own. They hop and bounce, laugh and chase. They really are so silly.
Then this morning I went back to Mark Dam. I'm not sure if Avi is in a hurry for this or not, but he did ask me how long it would take to dig. I said two days yesterday, but today I changed that to maybe three. It cannot be helped because I'm digging my way to the foundation stone, which is some kind of limestone. At some places it is only twenty centimeters and at others it is forty (That's the measurement here, and I'm finally getting used to it. Why not change, America, because it is so much easier?).
Here you can see the end goal. I've got to go to the wall of the watergate. The picture on the left is just the beginning, and the one on the right is an image of the progress that I made today. I took the image while I was standing on top of the watergate..
So why does all of this happen, the construction and moving and building and such? For the fruits and vegetables. It is hard to imagine that before last night I had never had a meal thats main portion was green beans from a garden, and those beans were picked just hours before the meal itself. The food here is amazing, and I have no idea how I'm going to get back to eating what I normally eat; but I'll have to because there is no way that we could afford to eat the organic fruits and vegetables that we do here at the rate that I do--they let me eat whatever I want! At first, they were taken aback by how much I ate, but once they saw the quality of my work with a shovel they just piled the deliciousness on my plate.
Today is market day, so they gather fresh herbs and vegetables to take. There is lettuce and cucumbers, green peppers, and all sorts of vegetables. But the eggplants are by far the prettiest from the garden today. I remarked to Tamar that I thought this was so and she said that they taste really good, too. I went yeah, but look how pretty they are. She just smiled.
The great pumpkin in the patch. There were really two of 'em. |

They left this for "us," but there is only me. |
