Day 25: I'm a conservative.

Yesterday we cut fruit for drying. There is so much fruit in the refrigerator that it will go bad if something is not done with it. So they dry it and sell it. No waste here. They also make jam with the remnants.

My spider bite is doing better.
It burns less.

Well, not exactly war wounds, but wounds anyway. I didn't get a picture of the wound on my head, but at least it stopped bleeding. We've been gathering the palm fronds to thatch the roof. They have the stickingest prickers I've ever seen. They might as well be metal spikes. Sheesh.

Even so, the roof is looking good. We ran out of nails, though. There are just some things that are normal around here, and being flexible is one of them. So I'll work on one of the other important projects until we get nails, and then we'll finish the thatching.

As we were gathering the fronds we say hyena tracks. If I make a paw with my hand it would be the same size as the tracks. That thing is huge!

Then we went to the pool. We are getting spoiled on Wednesdays. We work hard, so it is okay to take some time to relax, especially in the pool.
Then I had a little snack for myself. Nuts from the goats' food, a peach, a nectarine, and a clove of garlic. I washed it all down with some black tea.

And then we were back on the roof, which we finished today. Then we started on the sides. It is really nice doing this because I've never done it before and it just looks good. I love the patterns that the fronds make as they lie one against the other. I started thinking about the patterns of life that we make. I really do keep doing some of the same things over and over, like in "Groundhogs Day" (I love that movie and Andie MacDowell, mmm hmm.). Some of my patterns are not so good, maybe even bad. Is it wrong that I want to keep them? I feel like a broken known is much safer than an unknown. Oh boy, I'm growing conservative.

  1. Mark, your snack looks like art. You're not growing conservative; trust me on this one.
